Edward, the son of Thomas Anderson and his second wife, Hannah Twiddall, was baptised at Langtoft with Cottam in Yorkshire on 2 July 1733. His father had twelve sons and a daughter from two marriages and it was unlikely that there would be any provision for Edward on the land. He went to Hull and eventually became a wealthy shipowner living in George St, Hull.
Some time about 1786 he was joined in Hull by his nephew Thomas Anderson. Edward wrote his will on 17 March 1806 and it was probated on 3 July. His executor was his nephew, William Lovel, who was well provided for.
Edward died in 1806, a rich man with property in Sculcoates, Driffield, Hornsea and Hull.
