Research Notes

John Anderson may not be an Anderson. Father may be unknown. I wondered why the 1900 Census ^[8] listed the marriage of his parents as 1878 and yet this record his later records list birth years of 1879,^[6] 1880 ^[5] and 1881^{[1] [11]} and no other children were born, per records available, until 1885. The 1900 Census reports Sarah as having had 10 children with only 6 surviving at that time. So easy to to think they had lost children in the early 1880's.

Then I came across Sarah's 1880 Census ^[12] which lists her as Sarah Walters, a servant who is single with a son named John Walters born about Oct, 1879. Looking at the 1900 Census I see John's birth is also listed as Oct 1879. All subsequent records for John begin to have different years for his birth except his marriage record ^[6] which he gave a birth date of Nov 9 1879.

Without a birth certificate this is all conjecture and so I have not set his name to Walters nor set his birth date to an actual date. Hopefully a record in the future can be found to rectify this quagmire.
