Biography

William Harvey Anderson (1882-1931) was born in Rangoon, Burma on the 20th September 1882 and was christened at Christ Church, Rangoon on the 6th November 1882. He was the eldest son of an East India Merchant, John Anderson and Jane Harvey. ^[1] Around the time William was 5 years old, the family returned to live in the U.K. By then he had 3 more brothers, and there would be another 5 siblings before 1895.

They lived in Edinburgh, Scotland, where he was likely to have gone to school. ^[2] By 1901, he was a boarder a an address on Ringwood Road, Wandsworth and was a clerk to a rice merchant in London. ^[3]

He followed in his father's footsteps, becoming an East India merchant. In 1907, he looks to have sailed aboard the "Mandalay" for Rangoon ^[4] where he possibly stayed for a while. (He is absent from the 1911 censuses).

He is back in London before 1913 when he is a member of the London Scottish Battalion (territorial) and promoted to 2nd Lieutenant. ^[5] He served until at least 1915 when he was a 2nd Lieutenant. ^[6]

By 1920, he was living at Abingdon Villas, Kensington working as an East India Merchant. He became engaged to Hilda Mary Druitt that September

and they married on the 28th December 1920 at St James, Inverleith Row, Edinburgh. ^[7] The couple lived at 23 Stafford Terrace, Kensington, London and had 2 children. ^{[8] [9]}

William died on the 13th January 1931 at Kensington. ^{[10] [11]} and was buried on the 16th January 1931 at Dean Cemetery in Edinburgh. ^[12]
