Henry was a son of John Anderton and his wife Elizabeth (Betty) Ford. On 16 Aug 1852 he married Mary Ann Foulkes at the Chapel of Farnworth, Parish of Prescot, Lancashire, England.[2][3] Henry, like his father John, spent most of his life working at the glass works in St. Helens. In 1861 he was employed as a glass polisher. He died on 18 Aug 1893 aged 63 and was buried at St. Helens Cemetery.[4]

This family, from which a number of members, over some three generations, were employees of the glass works at St. Helens, should not be confused with the family of Henry Anderton, watch and clock tool maker. The two Henrys were born within 3 miles of each other in Lancashire, in approximately the same year. They both married a Mary. However in this family she was a Mary Ann. The two wives were born in approximately the same year.
