Biography

William was born about 1840 in Indiana, son of Lilbourn L. Andis and Julia Ann Simpson.

01 August 1850--At 10 years of age, William lived in White River, Johnson Co., Indiana with his parents and siblings. His father was indexed as "Lillbourn" Andis, aged 20, but the actual record shows he was 30, born in VA. His mother, Julia Ann was 33 and born in OH. His younger brothers Lewis-4 and George-2 were also in the home.

William Andis and Mary Jane Huff were married 25 Jul 1860 in Hendricks Co., Indiana, by C. W. Stewart.

Based on birth dates of children, they moved to Kansas about 1868.

11 July 1870--William Andis was 27. He and his wife, Mary Andis, aged 27, lived in Dover, Shawnee Co., Kansas (P.O. Waveland) with children: Sarah-7 and apparent twins, William and John, 2 years old. All born in Indiana. William was a farmer. Next to them in the census record is Milburn Andis-50, wife Julia and their son, Isaac. Possibly Wm's family? 8 year-old May (Mary E.?) Andis is with a couple named Miller on the same page.

28 June 1880--William Andis, a widower aged 40, lived in Soldier, Shawnee, Kansas, where he unloaded coal for a living. POB for his father was VA and his mother, OH. Sons in his household: William M-12 and John L-12, both born in Indiana. Also, Harry, aged 7, born in Kansas.
