Dorthea Maria Andreasen was born 5 May 1884 in Store Brøndum, Hellum, Ålborg, Denmark. She met my grandfather, Theodor Marinus Bach, when he returned to Denmark to visit his own family in 1907. After meeting her, he delayed his return trip back to Nora, Nebraska in order to court her. After asking her, she thought she should think about it a little longer. He bought 4 tickets on the Lusitania for himself, his two brothers and for her. Since she was not ready to marry, he gave her the open ended ticket to the states should she decide to marry. With that decided, the brothers, Andreas Carl Andreasen and Niels Christian Andreasen arrived in New York City with their benefactor on the 7th of Nov. 1907 and continued to travel all the way to Nebraska to settle in the same area. Dorthea remained in Denmark until 6 June 1908 and they were married the 10th of July in that same year. She had sailed on the Helig Olav from the fleet of the Scandinavian-American shipping line. Mother was the last of nine live children born to this union. Mother was born Edith Vera BACH, but she hated the name Vera, when she married Dad, she dropped the name of Vera and took on her maiden name as her middle name. [This was a memory that was shared to Edith BACH HALL from her father, Theodor (Laursen) BACH who was the husband of Dorthea Maria Andreasen.
