Biography

Rasmus Olson (born Rasmus Ole-Andreasen Aakre) was born on 6 Jul 1861 in Hjørundfjord, Norway (present day Ørsta, Møre og Romsdal) the son of Ole Andreas Jensen and Pernille Birgitte Jonsdatter.[1]

In 1865 Rasmus Andreasen (age 5) lived with his parents and siblings at Aakre in Hjørundfjord.[2]

In 1875 Rasmus lived with his parents at Aakre in Hjørundfjord.[3]

Rasmus emigrated to the United States, departing from Bergen on 27 Apr 1887.[4]

Rasmus married Helena Halgeson on 3 Feb 1890 in Benson, Swift, Minnesota.[5][6] Their children were:

  1. Odin Albin Olson (1890– )
  2. Bertha Pauline Olson (1892– )
  3. Josephine Elvina Olson (1894– )
  4. Alma Alina Olson (1896– )
  5. Nora Amanda Olson (1899– )
  6. Albert Orin Olson (1902– )

In the 1900 census Rasmus (age 38) was the married head of household in Benson village, Swift, Minnesota.[7] He and his wife Elena had been married for 11 years and had 5 children: Odin, Bertha, Josephine, Alma, and Nora.

In the 1910 census Rasmus (age 48) was the married head of household in Benson Ward 2, Swift, Minnesota.[8]

In the 1920 census Rasmus (age 57), janitor, was the married head of household in Benson, Swift, Minnesota.[9]

He died on 13 Jan 1945 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.[10] He was buried in Our Redeemer Cemetery in Benson.[11]
