Richard Leverton, formerly a citizen of Delaware, died suddenly on Wednesday, May 26, of heart disease, aged 85 years, at Orangeville, Illinois. He was born In Queen Anne's county, November 14, 1811, married Miss Tamsy Andrew, of Caroline county, March 13, 1811, who survives him.

OBITUARY -- William Lewis Leverton, a resident of Winslow passed away at St. Francis hospital, Freeport, III., Jan. 22, 1926, following: an operation. The funeral was held from the Methodist church at Wjnslow, Tuesday, Jan. 26. Wm. L. Leverton a son of Richard and Tamsy Leverton was born in Oneco, Aug. 20, 1859. Mr. Leverton has lived in Winslow township for the past 47 years with the exception of one year he spent at Walla Walla, Wash. He resided on a farm near Winslow till about 12 years ago when he removed to the town of Winslow where he followed carpenters trade which he learned when a young rnan. He served the board of supervisors for eight years and was assessor of Winslow township for eleven years and was highly respected and esteemed by all who knew him. Wm. Leverton was united in marriage on January 6, 1877 to Louise Dietmeier. To this union seven children were born. Those surviving are his widow and six children: Edward, Homer. Mrs. D. Showers, Mrs. Bertha Shippy, and Mrs. A. Jordan all of Winslow and vicinity, Arthur of Montana and fourteen grandchildren. Also three brothers and three sisters, Isaac Leverton of Iowa, Charles Leverton of Winslow, Mrs. J. Thorp of Orangeville, Mrs. W. J. Burdick, Jesse Leverton and Mrs. E.E. Johnson of Freeport.

OBITUARY -- Jesse Millard Leverton, son ot Richard and Tamsy Leverton was born May 26, 1850. in Sussex county Delaware and died Feb. 2, 1928 at the age of 77 years 8 months and 7 days. He came west In 1853 with his parents and settled on a farm in Oneco township where he grew to manhood. In February, 1866, he enlisted in the U. S. Infantry serving for three years, and was honorably discharged in February, 1869, with his two brothers, Isaac and Moses Leverton. He attended Kapervllle College but because of the loss of his hearing he returned to the farm and followed that occupation until his health failed when he retired. He leaves a wife and two sons, Harry and LaVerne. Two sons and one daughter preceding him in death. Also three sisters and one brother survive, Mrs. Clara Burdick and Mrs. E. E. Johnson, of Freeport. Mrs. Amanda Thorp of Orangeville, and Chas. Leverton, of Winslow. He resided four years In Freeport but removed to Reynolds, Miss., last September, where his death occured.

Leverton Family -- Winslow, Ill., July 29.—The Leverton family reunion was held at the homee of Dora Leverton on the Winslow-Warren road Sunday, July 28. There were fifty-seven of the relatives who came with well filled baskets and they enjoyed a very good dinner, Mrs. Leverton was hostess, furnishing lemonade and some beef. The day was spent in a very quiet way the gathering saddened by the sudden death of Mrs. Margaret Shaw of Rockford, one of the relatives. There are only four left of the older generation, the oldest being Dora Leverton the widow of Moses Leverton and Louisa Leverton the widow of William Leverton. The two children of Richard and Tamsy Leverton early settlers of Stephenson and Amanda Thorp of Warren and Charles Leverton of Winslow being the last of a family of twelve children. The oldest brother Arthur John Leverton died in the army from wounds received in the battle of Shiloh.

Leverton Family The Leverton family reunion was held on Flagstaff hill, Krape park, Sunday, Aug. 7, with about fifty members of the family present. After a fine picnic dinner they held a short business meeting with Mrs. Inez Ferguson presiding as president of the association. The following officers were elected for the year: President, Mrs. Elta. Showers; vice president, Stanley Thorp; secretary. Merle Leverton. Claude Thorp was appointed as chairman of the program committee. The next meeting Is to be held Krape park next year on the first Sunday in August. The following article about the movements of John Leverton in army was prepared and read by W. Luckett, acting historical technician: "Arthur J. Leverton was wounded in the battle of Shiloh while serving with the hard-fighting 15th Illinois regiment. Many of the wounded were taken care of here. The hospitals hospitals were filled here and at Savannah, Tennessee. Those who were badly wounded were cared temporarily at this place and then were sent to better hospitals. Arthur J. Leverton was carried to Paducah, Kentucky, where there was a hospital. Evidently he was very badly wounded for even the better means of taking care of the wounded did him little good for he died April 20th--13 days after the battle of Shiloh. "

LEVERTON FAMILY REUNION TO BE HELD AT TAYLOR PARK; ANNIVERSARY OF WEDDING -- Winslow, Ill., July 24.—The Leverton family reunion this year, which is to be held at Taylor park, Freeport, on Sunday, Aug. 3, will also be in the nature of a wedding anniversary, in that It will be 100 years since the wedding of Richard Leverton and Tamsy Andrew, pioneers in northwestern Illinois. Richard Leverton and Tamsy Andrew Andrew were married on March 18, 1841, In Maryland. They started west in 1853 and reached Rockford on March 18. Later they moved to Oneco township, Stephenson county, where they met pioneer settlers and formed friendships which lasted throughout their lives. These included Seth Shockley, Joel Beam and the Bowens. The house they occupied in 1857 Is now a part of the house on the Spencer Bowen farm not far from the Leverton homestead. The farm that Mr. Leverton purchased in 1859 Is still owned by Mrs. Amanda Thorp, the last surviving daughter of the family. Another child of Richard and Tamsy Leverton survives, Charles Leverton, residing in Oneco township. These two surviving children of the couple married 100 years ago plan to attend the Leverton reunion one week from next Sunday.

Ex-Orangeville Resident Dies At Age Of 99 -- ORANGEVILLE — Mrs. Amanda Amanda Leverton Thorp, 99, a resident of the Orangeville area for many years, died Monday night in a Lena nursing home. She was a member of a pioneer family in Onceco Township. Four of her brothers served in the Civil War. She was the last of a family of 12. She was born March 18, 1861, in Orangeville, the daughter of Richard and Tamsy Leverton. She was married to James L. Thorp of Winslow on Dec. 14, 1882. Surviving are one son, Claude of Dixon; a daughter, Mrs. Laura Sheley of Dayton, Ohio; four grandchildren; and 11 great- grandchildren. Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Cramer Funeral Home, the Rev. Joseph Housh, pastor of Orangevillr Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Orangeville Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home beginning 7:30 p.m Wednesday.
