Velma M. Whiteford York Velma M. Whiteford, 84, York, died Thursday (9/29/05). Born, Limon, Cola, Sept 12, 1921. Helped build gas tanks on P-38 P-38 P-38 aircraft aircraft during World War II. York area cook. Survivors: sons, Merlin Tannahill, George Whiteford, both of York; daughters, Kay Hildebrand, York, Beverly Staples, Simi Valley, Calif., Donice Lacy, Fullerton, Calif.; 21 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren. Services: 2 p.m. Monday, Metz Mortuary, York. Visitation: after 5 p.m. Sunday, memorial home. Memorials to the family.
