Janet was born in Southend, Argyll, Scotland in 1838. She was the daughter of David Andrew and Janet Howie. [1]
She came to the US as a young girl with her family on the Gleaner in 1842. [2]
They were some of the earliest residents of the Scottish Settlement at Argyle, Illinois. [3][4]
She married Donald Sillars in Illinois in 1869. [5] They farmed in Harlem Township. [6]
Janet passed away in 1923.
JANET SILLARS DIES HERE AT THE AGE OF 84 Mrs. Janet Andrew Sillars, aged 84 years, a resident of Rockford for 81 years, died Thursday morning at 9:15 o'clock at her home, 516 N. Second st., after three weeks illness of heart trouble.
Her death occurred just 81 years to a day after her arrival in Rockford.
Janet Andrew was born in Scotland, Aug. 2, 1838. She came with her parents to America when she was three years of age. They arrived in Rockford July 5. 1842.
Her marriage to Donald Sillars took place Jan. 28, 1869. Mr. Sillars died seven years ago. She leaves three daughters, Mrs. Edward Reid and Mrs. John A. Ralston, Argyle, and Miss Elizabeth Sillars, living at home; a brother, William Andrew, 423 N. Third st., and five grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the home, 516 N. Second st., the Rev. George T. Liddell, pastor of Westminster Presbyterian church, officiating. Burial will be at Argyle. [7]
