Mary was born on March 24, 1864, in Farmersburg, Clayton County, Iowa, the daughter of George Andrew, Jr. and Caroline Hatter.
Mary Andrew was married to Alfred Thomas Flack on February 28, 1883, in Jefferson, Greene Co., Iowa.
She passed away on November 29, 1947 in Churdan, Highland Township, Greene County, Iowa. Her obituary appeared on the front page of the Jefferson Bee on December 2, 1947.[1]
Mrs. Ella Flack Succumbed At Churdan Home
Churdan - Mrs. Mary Luella Flack, 83-year-old Churdan woman, died Saturday at her home in Churdan. She had been ill for some time.
Services were held at 2 o'clock this afternoon from the Churdan Baptist church with the Rev. George C. Foster in charge. Burial was in the Highland township cemetery.
Mrs. Flack, the daughter of George Andrew and Caroline Hatter, was born March 24, 1864, at Clayton, Iowa. Her husband, Alfred Thomas Flack, preceded her in death.
She is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Lydia Hurdel, Mrs. Laura Yeager and Mrs. Ruth Wing of Rockwell City, Mrs. Mary Wright and Ruby Flack of Churdan; five sons, Ralph and Floyd Flack of Jefferson, Alta Flack of Churdan, Alva Flack of Dana and Dewey Flack of Lohrville; 28 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, and a brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Andrew of Churdan.
She is buried in the Highland Township Cemetery in Churdan, Greene County, Iowa. A memorial can be found on Find A Grave.

1910 - United States Federal Census - In the 1910 federal census, Alfred T. Flack, 49, is farming his own farm and living in Bristol Township, Greene County, Iowa, with his wife, Mary E., 46, and their children, Laura R., 22; Ralph E., 20; Alta G., 18; Alva S., 18; Floyd W., 16; Mary E., 13; Earl D., 11; Nellie R., 9 and Ruby M., 6.[4]
1920 - United States Federal Census - In the 1920 federal census, Alfred T. Flack, 58, and his wife, Mary L. Flack, 55, are living in Highland Township, Greene County, Iowa with their children Earl D. Flack, 21, Nellie R. Flack, 19, and Ruby M. Flack, 16. Earl is working as a laborer.[5]
1930 - United States Federal Census - By the 1930 federal census, Mary Flack, 66, is widowed, and is living in Highland Township, Greene County, Iowa, with her daughter, Ruby, 26. Mary is listed as a servant in a private home and Ruby is listed as a general laborer doing odd jobs.[6]
1940 - United States Federal Census - In the 1940 census, Ella Flack, 76, continues to live in her home in Churdan with her daughter, Ruby, 36. Ella is shown as having completed the 8th grade, while Ruby had completed high school. Ruby is listed as a housekeeper in a private home.[7]
