Hepzibah was born in 1756. She is the daughter of Abraham Andrus and Sarah Westover.

One place to look for her family is among the earliest settlers of the Pawlet VT area; her father may have been another of the Green Mountain boys or the soldiers who took Ft Ticonderoga.

One of daughter Rachel's sons was named Joshua Chapman Stephens; her first son was named Elisha G, presumably Gilbert, and her second named Jedidiah for her father-in-law. Who was Joshua Chapman? Is this a clue? There was a Joshua Chapman in Steuben Co NY in 1820: 100110/23010. This family later married cousins of the Stephens family. Joshua Chapman was town clerk
