Biography

Maud of Angus married, firstly, John Comyn (d. 1242 in France), but it is not clear which John Comyn that is.[1][2][3]

She married, secondly, Gilbert de Umfreville, Lord Prudhoe & Redesdale, Earl of Angus, son of Richard de Umfreville, Lord Prudhoe & Redesdale and Matilda de Torrington, in 1243. They had 1 son:[1][2][3][4]

She married, thirdly, Sir Richard de Dover, Lord Chilham, son of Sir Richard FitzRoy, Constable of Wallingford Castle, Sheriff of Berkshire and Rohese of Dover, between 13 March 1245 and 2 December 1247. They had 1 son & 1 daughter:[1][2][3][5][6][7]

Thank you Scott, I am not able to find a connection of Matilda to Urquhart. Perhaps David Robinson is aware of a connection...

In 1230 King Alexander II (1198 - 1249) granted his son-in-law Alan Durward the lordship of Urquhart, and it is almost certain that believed the earliest parts of medieval castle date from his time. After his death in 1275 the castle passed to John Comyn, appointed by Edward I of England.

Why is Urquhart Castle pictured here on this page? Did Maud of Angus live here with one of her husbands? Since her third husband was the Constable of Wallingford, perhaps Wallingford Castle should be on this page? Scott
