In 1885, Henry Kennedy Anketell penned the following information about the death and last will and testament of Roger Anketell of Dernamuck:
"Mr. Roger Anketell died in 1782, and his Will was proved in the same year by his three sons, John, William, and Oliver. The following is an Abstract of the Will which may be seen in the Prerogative Office, Four Courts, Dublin.
“'Roger Anketell, of Dernamuck, in the County of Monaghan, Gentleman, through the mercies of God lately recovered from a most violent fit of sickness and being still weak of body and indisposed, but of sound disposition of mind, memory, and understanding, Do hereby make and publish this to be my last Will and testament.” ‘He directs his body to be buried in the Churchyard of Errigal, the cost not to exceed £20. He leaves the following town-lands to his son Oliver and Roger Anketell, jointly, Greagh, Middle Dernalusset, Tamlab [sic] Curraghmore; to his son Oliver individually, the town lands of Kissamone alias Ivy Hill, Altavadin, and Belreagh; to his son Roger individually, the town lands of Aghassure [Aghassurs?] and Dernamuck Anketell; to his son William, the lease of ungillick an the freehold of Plaster. The lands of Greagh, Middle Dernalussett, Tamlah, and Curraghmore being charged with annuities to his dearly-beloved wife Rhoda Anketell, his eldest son John Anketell, Clerk in Holy Orders, his second son William, his fourth son Thomas Anketell, a Lieut. in 30th Regiment of Foot, then serving in America, his sister Mary Blair, his nephew William Anketell, and his niece Mary Anketell, he leaves each of his sons the furniture of their own rooms and directs that his widow shall live with one of her sons. A sum of ready money to be given to his sons at his death, and he appoints his four sons John, William, Oliver, and Roger, his executors.’
"'This Will is dated 14th Dec., 1781, and was proved by the Rev. John Anketell, William Anketell, and Oliver Anketell, on 3rd Sep., 1782.'"[1]
