Biography

Paul was born in 1915. He is the son of Freeman Ankrum and Viola Myers.

THACA - Paul Denzil Ankrum died Saturday, August 27, 2005, at his home in Ithaca. Born August 14, 1915 in Hamlin, Kansas, he was the son of the Reverend Freeman Ankrum and Viola Myers Ankrum.Paul was raised in the Midwest and graduated from Flora Indiana High School in 1933. He received a BSEE from Indiana Institute of Technology in 1935 and an AB from Ashland University in 1939. He became head of Indiana Tech's radio department at Fort Wayne before coming to Ithaca in 1942. He received a MS in Engineering from Cornell in 1944 and joined the Electrical Engineering faculty that same year. He became Professor in 1963, Professor Emeritus in 1982 and continued teaching until 1987. He published several works on semiconductors and semiconductor devices, which became standard texts in the field. Paul joined the Exchange/City Club in 1947, drove for "Fish" and had been active in the Boy Scouts and with St. Paul's United Methodist Church.Professor Ankrum is survived by his wife of 65 years, Laura Frances Kiracofe; his two sons, David Lee (Laura) and John Paul; two grandchildren, Raymond (Wenona) Ankrum and Kimberly (Larry) Snyder; and three great-grandchildren, Robert Arthur, David Paul and Cassandra Frances Snyder; one sister, Mary Alice (Willard) Bowman of Virginia. He was predeceased by his parents; and siblings, Laird Ankrum and Genevieve Shidler.Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by the E.C.
