John was born around November 1824 in the Village of Abernethy, 8 miles south-east of the Town of Perth, in Perthshire, Scotland. He was the son of David Annan and Isabel "Isabella" Donaldson.
He is baptized on the 17 November 1824 at the Parish Church, Seafield Place, Nethy Bridge, in the Village of Abernethy, south east of the Town of Perth, in Perthshire, Scotland. His surname is recorded as being "Anan"[1].
Elizabeth (Lumsden) marries John (Annan) on the 12 March 1851 at the Parish Church of Falkland, the Square, in the High Street of the Village of Falkland, Parish of Falkland, Fife, Scotland[2].
We find John with the Census Record of 1841 living with his parents David (Annan) and Isabel "Isabella" (Donaldson); sister Cecilia (Annan) and nieces, Betsey and Jean (Annan) at West Port (North Side), in the Village of Falkland, Parish of Falkland, Fife, Scotland[3]. It seems as if they have put down roots at West Port, in the Village of Falkland, in Fife. They live there with their children John, Cecilia, Richard, Barbara and Alexander (Annan); nieces Betsey and Jean (Annan) and Lodger, Henry (Christie)[4].

John (Annan) passes away on the 31 December 1874 at 7.30 pm at West Port, in the Town of Falkland, District of Falkland, in Fife, Scotland. He was 50 years old and his death was attributed to Chronic Bright's Disease {Nephritis} (2 years) and Pneumonia (10 days). His son, Walter (Annan) was present at the death and Informant[7].
