Charles was born about 1834 and was baptied in Lyme Regis, Dorset, England on 14 September 1834.[1] He was the son of Joseph Anning and Amelia (Reader) Anning.
At the time of the 1841 UK Census he is living in Lyme Regis with his parents and younger brother Frederick.[2]
In 1851 Charles (16y) is an apprentice draper in the household of draper John Russell at 56 Mary Street, Melcombe Regis, Weymouth, Dorset.[3]
He married Francis Glanville in Llanfair Cilgedin, Monmouthshire, Wales on 28 June 1857.[4][5]
