Jane was the daughter of David and Ruth (Jones) Williams. She migrated from Hawkins County with her father in the mid-1830's settling in Greene County. She married John Joseph Griffis on Jan 13, 1843 in Greene County, Missouri; they had 5 children: William D., Martha Eveline, John M., Elbert Clinton and Mary Elzury. The story is told of her going by wagon to a Civil War Battlefield to recover the body of deceased son (probably William).
