Biography

My biological birth name is Carol Jean Bourke. I was adopted and my adopted name is Carol Jean Merrifield and I have been married three times, so I need to add Bobo Heimbuch and Pierson to the mix. Unfortunately, my records are under all of the following names. I have had an account with Wiki tree before under Bourke-962 and my family members are still listed. Over the years I have found more records and some of the information needs to be changed and I will try to figure out how to reattach them to this tree. I am interested in finding more relatives, breaking through brick walls, and verifying DNA recommendations. I have had DNA tests done by Ancestry, My Heritage, and a mtDNA through CRI Genetics and FTDNA. In addition, I am also listed with Gedmatch #HE912851C1.

The biography for Carol Bourke Merrifield is empty. What can you add?

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships by comparing test results with CJ or other carriers of her ancestors' mitochondrial DNA. Mitochondrial DNA test-takers in the direct maternal line:

Hi, I got your email requesting help in adopting the profiles, however when I checked you had already adopted the two you mentioned.

You have questions about the spelling of my ancestor, who I am not sure is the ancestor of your duchoquette, since there is a difference in the spelling of the surname: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/120974841/francois_duchouquette

Thank you all for the welcome greeting but I am not exactly new to Wikitree, inexperienced yes but not new. I had created a guest account years ago to check out the program but did not join. I set up the account in my biological birth name. When I joined years later I set up the account in my adopted birth name. Merrifield-720 which created a duplicate. It has been merged and they told me to go to the Genealogist section to get rid of the guest page. However, I am afraid to hit the close account button without someone telling me I am doing it right because I do not want to accidentally delete my tree and I am waiting for an answer back.

But thanks to all of you for the welcome.

Comparing Labuche-4 (L) and LaBuche-1 (R) : If the two are merged, the remaining profile will be LaBuche-1 and both you and T d Anderson will be managers. Profiles are never deleted, but the policy for WikiTree is to have one profile per individual. There are lots of duplicates, but we strive to keep the database as clean as possible. Is that what you wanted to know? jan

Thanks Jan. I did the merge and waiting for the approval? but they got back to me and said I could update the file which I did. I have left two messages to Td Anderson telling him/her about the merge and asking if they were Ok with me handling the profile and they have never gotten back to me. I also have sent an email to Dana (don't remember her last name) but she is the profile manager for Francois Regis Gagnier. Marianne's oldest son. She only has one line of info on him. Marianne Labuche was my 4th gen great grandmother. I have been to Prairie du Chien twice doing research. I personally met with the President of the Prairie du Chien Historical Society and traded information with her. I have a lot of very interesting information about the history of this family and it's members but I do not want to step on someone else's toes and not ask them if it is OK and she hasn't gotten back to me either. So I don't know if she is active or if the file is dormant. I am in a state of limbo and waiting ??? I felt Ok with the changes I made on Marianne because I was the one who originally created LaBuche-1 and Td Anderson created the duplicate but that is not the case with Regis.

T.D. has only just joined the WikiTree family and may be unsure about what merging is all about. It is necessary if we want one profile per unique person. Managers don't "own" the profile (except the private ones) so if the profile is "open" that means that the person it represents has been long deceased.

Continue to improve either of the profiles that are to be merged. No one can merge until T.D. gives his approval, OR after 30 days, if he doesn't then the merge will go into default approved and anyone can merge it. By "cleaning up" both profiles and adding sources, it will make the "clean-up" post merge much easier.

It is wonderful to have an actual descendant, who has sources to add to work on the profile. I have added sources to my ancestor's profiles that are not available on-line or found in a book. Like you, I had the President of the St Louis Historical Society research my ancestors. Go ahead and add that reference to the comments that you post from information given to you in Prairie du Chien. btw, I have ancestors there and have attended family reunions there. When you get all your ancestors added, do a relationship search to see if we are related. jan

Dana has not been very active, however she did add DNA info in January of this year, so she hasn't quit WikiTree. For my own part, I have no qualms about adding sourced material for anyone who died almost two hundred years ago! I say help her out. If ever someone doesn't like what you have provided, they can always use the "restore" feature on the changes page. And the information that you provided will remain in the audit trail in the changes page, as well.

Carole,

To Volunteer just add any surnames of interest into Tags so that you have one tag for each surname and location. By doing that, when you are confirmed as a full member you can then click on those tags, and you'll be taken to a page where you'll see other genealogists who are also following those surnames and locations. I really encourage you to explore the connections it helps you make. :-)

Don't forget to Check the Volunteer Box

Also Note There is a button to click at the bottom of the page that says Add tags and Volunteer. It is rectangular.

When you have done that one of our Greeters will confirm you as a full member so that you can Edit your Profile and enter information into WikiTree.
