James Ansell was born in England.

James William Ansell was born about 1873 at Bermondsey London [1][2][3].

On 19 July 1880 he was admitted to school (he had attended a previous school[4].

On 29 August 1901, a batchelor aged 28, he married Jessie Ella Papps, a spinster aged 23, at St Barnabas Church in the parish of Battersea by License. His occupation was stated as licensed victualler. He was living at 51 Eccles Road and his father was William Ansell (deceased) also a licensed victualler. She was living at 4 Keildon Road and her father was John Lambert Papps (deceased) a stud groom. The marriage was registered in Wandsworth, London[5]. They had two children;

  1. Edith Alice,
  2. Frederick James.

On 2 April 1911 he was married and living at 2&3 New Bridge Street in the City of London, England as head of household. His occupation was Manager of a Public House and Jessie was listed as Manageress. Their two children were living with them. There were nine staff listed on the census including six bar staff, a porter, a cook and a housemaid.[3].

He died about 1942 at Marylebone, London, England. [6].

Not to be confused with William Ansell (abt.1873-) also born about 1873 and also married to a Jessie. Ansell-1358is evidencedin the 1901 census (see his profile). No 1901 census record has yet been found for James William.
