Biography

Leona was born on 12 May 1905^[1] in Lawrence County, Ohio. She was the daughter of Harry Anson and Hattie Collins. ^[2]

Leona was married three times. Her first marriage was to Raymond L. Duty^[3] on 9 Jun 1921 in Greenup County, KY. Ray was 21 years old and Leona, 18. In 1922 the couple welcomed their first child, Eveline V. Duty.^[4] On 13 Aug 1925, a son was born to the couple, Robert Duty.^[5]

Leona's marriage ended sometime after her son was born and she would go on to marry Robert J. Brown, a 53 year old widower, on 7 Jan 1926 in Lawrence County. R. J. was a miner.^[6] According to the 1930 census, Leona and her husband lived in Lawrence County along with her daughter from her previous marriage Evelyn Duty (8) and two sons of the couple, Robert Brown (4), and Roy Brown (2).^[7]

After R.J. passed away in 1943, Leona married John Pancake on the 2 Nov 1948^[8] in Lawrence County. John was 48 years old, and she was 43. Records also show that the couple was also married on 3 Jun 1950 in Greenup, Kentucky.^[9]

Leona Pancake passed away on 5 Jul 1974.^[10]
