Born on the 14th of February 1767, Thomas Adams was son of George Adams and his wife, Mary Venables-Vernon. [1][2] On the 30th of April 1773 his Surname was changed to Anson. [2] He was educated at Eton and Oriel College, Oxford. [1]
He was first returned to Parliament as member for Lichfield at a by-election in 1789. [3] Thereafter he took the seat on his own account in 1790,1796 and 1802. [4]
On the 15th of September 1794 At Holkam in Norfolk, he married Anne Margaret Coke, [5] daughter of Thomas William Coke, Earl of Leicester of Holkham in Norfolk, [1] and his wife, Jane Dutton. [2]They were parents of 6 sons and 4 daughters. [1] Thepeerage.com says 7 sons and 6 daughters citing several different sources. [2]
Thomas was created Viscount Anson on the 17th of February 1806. [1]
He died on the 31st of July 1818 [1] and was buried at Shugborough in Staffordshire on the 10th of August. [2]
