Philip was born in 1752. He was the child of John Anstruther and Janet Fall.
He was a lieutenant in the 1st Dragoon Guards.
He served as Member of Parliament for Anstruther Burghs from 1774 to 1777.
In 1778 he married Anne Paterson, daughter of Sir John Paterson, 3rd Baronet and Anne Hume-Campbell, Baroness Polwarth, but they had no children. In 1782 he changed his name to Anstruther-Paterson.
On the passing of his father in 1799 he succeeded as 3rd Baronet Anstruther of Anstruther (est. 1700 in the Scottish Baronetage of Nova Scotia). The title gave him the equivalent status of a knight. He also inherited the title Master Carver to the Royal Household.
He passed away in 1808. He was succeeded by his brother.
