Mary was born on 31 December 1839 at Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland. She was the daughter of Philip Anstruther (Colonial Secretary of Ceylon) and Mary Frances Stewart-Mackenzie.[1]
Scotland Census Event Date 1851: Living with her parents and siblings at Tillicoultry Mansion House, Clackmannanshire, Scotland. Aged 11 and a Scholar.
She married William Reierson Arbuthnot (son of George Arbuthnot and Elizabeth Fraser) on 9 December 1858 at Saint James, Paddington, London, England.[2]
They had fourteen children.
UK Census Event Date 1881: Living with her husband, seven children and brother in law Charles W Arbuthnot in Cambridge Square, Paddington, London,Middlesex, England. Aged 41.
She was a keen Christian and supporter of the Women's Protestant Movement.
Mary died in 1912 at the age of 72. She and her husband are both commemorated in West Hoathly Church, West Sussex.
