Colonel Robert Anstruther (31 December 1757 – 1833) was a Scottish soldier in the British Army, and briefly a politician.

He was the son of Sir John Anstruther of that Ilk, 2nd Bt. and Janet Fall. He married Anne Nairne, daughter of Colonel Alexander Nairne and Preston née Balneavis on 9 May 1801.

He was the Member of Parliament (MP) from 1793 to 1794. He gained the rank of Colonel in the service of the 68th Regiment. [7]

Biography:

Anstruther came in for the family burghs on his father’s retirement in 1793, but without making any mark in Parliament made way for Henry Dundas’s nephew a year later. He was expected to support administration. In 1818, when his nephew Sir John Carmichael Anstruther left a posthumous heir, he became manager of the burghs for the family and negotiated the return of Ministeralist Members. He died 7 Mar. 1833. He is buried in Saint Cuthbert’s Churchyard, in the City of Edinburgh, Edinburgh, Scotland.[9]
