James Richard Anthony was born on 19 Feb 1858 in Fayette County, Alabama. His parents were William Pickens Anthony (1832 - 1904) and Mary Polly (Logan) Anthony (1829 - 1899).

According to the 1900 Census, James married Tsaiah Augusta Perkins (~1862 - ) in 1881.[4] The marriage would have taken place near their homes in Fayette County, Alabama.

James died on 10 Feb 1918 aged 59.[7] He was laid to rest in the Hubbertville Church of Christ Cemetery, Hubbertville, Fayette County, Alabama.[8]
