Hi Stewart! Congratulations, you've been a WikiTree member for a month! We're glad you're here. A few tips to help you dive in even deeper:

Check out Beyond the Basics of WikiTree for a guide to some of our more advanced features such as projects, categories, and merging.

We're very active on our social sites and we have an excellent blog where you'll find our monthly newsletter as well as tips, interviews with our members, and guest posts from others in the genealogy community.

And we're always looking for volunteers to assist in different ways.

As always, I'm here to help if you have any questions!

Thank you so much for the information. I will have to flag that one. I had to ask what two shillings and a sixpence meant in a will I came across too. It's those little odd sayings that had historical significance that we lose over time. Any luck on your grand parents yet?

NP. I did a quick search for your grandparents but wasn't able to nail anything down without going further. One suggestion though, as far as locations go, you might know where they are, but this is a world wide tree, and others don't necessarily know those communities, so before you go to far ahead, start including as much information, without abbreviations, including the country. City, township, county/parish, state/province, country. I learned this the hard way and still don't have all of mine corrected. Let me know when you are ready to jump back in. Also, try G2G. And if you go back to Scotland, try: http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Scottish_Clans for resources/search sites. Consider joining too! Nae

NOTE: One of the message below has a space in front of one of the lines and it causes the page to "STRETCH" You can delete the culprit and your page will go back to normal. It's a "coding" thing.

How are things going? Do you have any questions?

As you go farther back in your tree, it is a good idea to do a search first to see if you have a match already created on Wiki Tree before creating a new profile. And keep in mind, if you do find a match, odds are the manager is also related to that person and probably you!

There is a great question to review on G2G regarding duplicate profiles and merges. See: http://www.wikitree.com/g2g/51703/behind-merges-identifying-lowest-numbered-profile-correct

Also, a great place to ask specific question is on G2G. Under My Wiki Tree (on of the links at top right) select G2G PROFILE. You can browse/ask/answer questions. You can also "tag" them by topic. I am a mentor. Would love an explanation of the King's Shilling too! Nae

Hi Stewart!

Do fully agree. Welcome to WikiTree and thank you for your decision to contribute. We have all sorts of skills, but one common interest - genealogy. I would recommend first looking around and become familiar with the various functions.

The main menu, located at the top right of the page, offers access to the most important features amongst them your Wiki-ID. In the help section »G2G« at the bottom, you’ll find the WikiTree online help. You can ask all sorts of questions, technical and others, and because WikiTree is worldwide, there is almost always someone online, who can give a qualified answer. Good luck! - and don't forget to sign the Honor Code. Pleasure to have you onboard.

I am the family Recorder of our Family history, not because I wanted it, a lot of people would understand the term, the Kings Shilling but I was never paid it.

Like a lot of us once you start it is difficult to give up the search
