Jim created the Find A Grave website in 1995 because he could not find an existing site that catered to his hobby of visiting the graves of famous people. He found that there are many thousands of folks around the world who share his interests. What began as an odd hobbybecame a livelihood and a passion. Building and seeing Find A Grave grow beyond his wildest expectations has been immensely satisfying for Jim. Every day, contributors from around the world enter newrecords, thousands use the site as an educational reference tool, long-lost loved ones are located and millions of lives are fondly remembered. In what other line of work would Jim have met one of the last living Munchkins, spoken to a gathering of grave enthusiasts in a Hollywood mausoleum and acquired treasures like his antique coffin screwdriver (it only screws in)? Hi Pamela, I'm enjoying following your research on the Walkers. Did you know that WikiTree provides you with a "Scratch Pad" page where you can put your own notes, so you don't have to add unformatted and unproven information to people's public profiles? In addition to Billy's good advice below - that you hold off on attaching parents or changing vital statistics - I would suggest that you also use your personal scratch pad instead of their biographies for the information you have collected so far. Finally, please contact and work with the great folks on the Puritan Great Migration Project. They are skilled WikiTreers and good researchers who can help you make the most of the work you are doing. Thanks again for your energy and commitment to our (shared) ancestors!
I see that you just did the Pre-1700 Self-Certification. That's great! Is there a particular time period, location, or topic you're interested in? Maybe you have some historically-significant ancestors? Participation in a project is strongly encouraged for those wishing to edit Pre-1700 profiles. Be sure to also check out our Volunteer Hub to see our projects that really need new members!
Let me know, and I can help you figure out if there's a project that might interest you. Welcome aboard, we are glad to have you!
Message about Walkers: Very interesting. These are real people no doubt. How do you know these are the immigrants to New England? There were many Walker families. Could be the same but perhaps more research is required. I suggest you enter this data in the bio under speculation rather than proceeding to change any of the prime data.
Thanks for adding profiles to WikiTree! When you are ready, do you know how to add sources for your info? Here's a page with more information about sourcing: http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Sources
Our vision is to build a collaborative tree with one profile per person. The farther back you go, it's likely you will find duplicate profiles to link into, so it's a good idea to do a search before you create a new profile.
Do you have Royal Ancestors? If so, they are already here! Please contact the EuroAristo Project to discuss connecting your family line to their already existing profiles.
WikiTree strives to be a fun, collaborative, productive site. It's also different than what many people are used to. Please take advantage of the Help Menu in the upper right hand corner, our G2G Forum and of course, our Mentors :)
Welcome to our community, Pamela. The more ancestors you add, the more likely cousins will find you and collaborate. :)
Our Honor Code, G2G message forum, help pages, search features, and many other useful links can be accessed from the menus on the upper right corner of most pages.
VERY IMPORTANT:
The more documents, sources, dates, and locations you provide on the profiles you create, the stronger your branches and our mutual global tree will be. If you don't know the correct date, please estimate using before or after.
Thank you for helping in our mission to build a global tree with only one profile per person.
I am always finding new and interesting information to my ancestry. I welcome any additions and love to share any information I already have. It is exciting to find new and unknown relatives in my search.
To help you find your way, the help pages and search features can be accessed through the links on the upper right hand corner of almost any page. Feel free to post a question in the G2G Forum or on a relevant profile page.
If you would like to contribute to Wikitree, please click the Volunteer link to receive your Volunteer badge, and post a comment here on your profile to tell us that you are interested in family history and wish to join us.
