William Antwhistle (abt. 1771 - 1844)

Biography

William Antwhistle (or Entwhistle) was probably born about 1771 in Ireland. According to the 1851 Ireland census, William married his wife Sarah in 1826, he was a School Master, and he had died in summer 1844 age 73 at their home at Kilcreeny, Ballinderry, County Antrim, Ireland. His wife and two daughters (one married) were still living at home.^[1]

William's son James Antwhistle was convicted of larceny in 1847 and sentenced to seven years transportation to Van Diemen's Land. James' convict indent record lists a brother John and six sisters: Nat[?], Eliza, Charlotte, Jane, Letitia, Dorothy.^[2]

William is named in the marriage records of his daughters:

• Charlotte Antwhistle married William Hunter on 4 Dec 1845.^[3]
• Dorothy Kearnes nee. Antwhistle married Joseph Moore on 21 Aug 1853.^[4]
