Biography

Ana Maria Anzaldua was born in between the early and mid 18th century most likely in Cerralvo, Nuevo Leon, Mexico to Sebastian Anzaldua and Mariana Saucedo.

She was one of the original early settlers of the town of Mier near the Rio Grande. She is listed in the 1757 census there [1].

She married Juan Antonio Ramos and passed away in February of 1790 due to Tuberculosis and was recorded as being dead on February 7th, 1790 [2]. She was buried in the Mier Municipal Cemetery[3].

Birth Date

It is not fully known what date Ana Maria Anzaldua was born. In her death record that was recorded in February of 1790, it listed her as being either 78 or 68 years old. There is currently conflicting information on this due to the different readings of what was recorded for her age upon her death, where it looks like it could be either "sesenta y ocho" or "setenta y ocho" depending on how one looks at it.

Given that her parents Sebastian Anzaldua and Mariana Saucedo married in 1704, and that her husband Antonio Ramos was born sometime around 1715, it is possible that she was 78 upon her death in 1790, making her birth date to be estimated around 1712. Currently, Moises Garza, an experienced genealogist that specializes in northern Mexican genealogy, says that she was 78 years of age upon her death in 1790 [4].

However, another argument could be made that it is still completely possible that it is actually "sesenta y ocho" that was said in the document, making her birth date to be estimated to have taken place around 1722.

Due to the disputed birth date, I will leave the estimated birth date on this page to be in the middle of the two for now at 1717. One may change it in the future upon further evidence pointing towards her true birth date, or if they are very confident in what they interpret for her age that was written in the document of her death.

The original entry of her death can be found here on the right page, 2nd entry [5].
