Biography

John Appleby, tin plate worker, living in London Fields, married Harriet Nay on 25 December 1843 in St John, Hackney, England. Father: Charles Appleby, wheelwright.[1]

In the 1851 England Census Joseph Appleby, 29 born about 1822 in Bethnal Green, Middlesex, England, tin plate worker, was head of his household in 18 King St, Bethnal Green, Middlesex, England. Other Household Members, all born in Bethnal Green, were: his wife Harriet Appleby 28, and their children: Joseph Appleby 7, Charles Appleby 5, and William Appleby 2. The exception was Edmund Sallet 22, tin plate worker, who was their lodger born in Spitalfields. [2]

In the 1861 England Census Joseph Appleby, 39, born about 1822 in Bethnal Green, Middlesex, England, tin plate worker, was head of his household in 11 Albion Buildings, Hackney Road, Bethnal Green, Middlesex, England. Other Household Members, all born in Bethnal Green, were: his wife Harriet Appleby 39, and their children: Joseph Appleby 16 tin plate worker, Charles Appleby 14, tin plate worker, William Appleby 12, scholar, Eliza Appleby 10, scholar, Harriet Appleby 7, scholar, Henry Appleby 5 scholar, Emily Appleby 3, scholar, and John Appleby 1/12. Other Household Members were his wife Harriett Appleby 59, and daughter Annie Appleby 15. Two sons were living next door in No.11: H Appleby 26, and J Appleby, 20, both unmarried tin plate workers.
