Biography

Samuel was born to Samuel W Applegate and his wife Mary. His siblings are Anderson [1], Anna Maria (Riggs) [2], Eli, Disbrow, William P, Noah, Martha E [3], Smith [4], and Sarah Jane [5].

Samuel was a laborer (1880).

Samuel served in Company A of the 6th Infantry, New Jersey Volunteers, during the Civil War. He enlisted 1861 August 7th for three years and was mustered in on the 19th at Camp Olden as a private. Samuel sustained a shell wound to the hip that only partially disabled him and he was mustered out 1864 September 7th in Trenton at the end of his term of service [6] [7].

Samuel was married 1853 July 5th in Cranbury, Middlesex County, to Elizabeth Clayton [8]. Their children are Charles W, James A, William E [9], Elias A [10], Selah C, Elmer G [11], and Frances J [12].
