He was a cotton manufacturer in Glasgow, a merchant and the first Provost of Peterhead.[1] ... He may be the George Arbuthnot shown on Table 83 as having had an illegitimate child by Helen Davidson.
George married Mary Hutchison (b. 13 April 1796 - d. 14 Feb 1837), daughter of John Hutchison of Cairngall, at Peterhad, Aberdeenshire, Scotland on the 5th of May 1816.[2]
