Samuel was born in 1829. He was the son of Thomas Arbuthnot and Mary Heron.[1]

He was baptised at Dromore Episcopal Church on 8 February 1829.

Samuel married Sarah Fisher (daughter of James Fisher) on 8 November 1853 in Dromore, Down, Ireland.[2]
