James Lycurgus Arbuthnot was sometimes called James Kirkland or Kirkus Arbuthnot.
James Lycurgus Arbuthnot was born in April 1836 and he was the son of Sarah (Woodside) and William Burton Arbuthnot. [1][2]
James Lycurgus Arbuthnot was residing in East Feliciana Parish, Louisiana and during the American Civil War, he served as a Private in the Louisiana Cavalry. He became a Prisoner of War (POW) and was parolled on 12 May 1865 at Gainesville, Alabama, USA.
He moved to Woodville, Wilkinson County, Mississippi, USA where he was a slave owner. He mistreated black men and loved black women. He freed slaves and gave some property to his families.
He died about 1910 in Wilkinson County, Mississippi, USA and was buried at the Arbuthnot Cemetery on Locust Hill Road, near Woodville, Wilkinson County, Mississippi, USA. Map on the right hand, middle section to the right of the large number 2. Not indicated on the map, but Locust Hill Road is.
