Jean Arbuthnot died young.

Jean was born in 1888. She was the daughter of Alexander Arbuthnot and Annie Cooke.

Her mother died in 1898.

She drowned in the Gunbower Creek (which breaks away from the Murray River in Koondrook, Victoria, Australia) on 26 December 1899 at the age of 11. She was swimming with her brother Frank when she got out of her depth and sank to the bottom in about 6 feet of water. Sadly Frank was too young to save her.
