James Anthony Arbuthnot, the son of Robert Arbuthnot and Evelyn Burke, was born on 27 August 1908 in Idaho Falls, Idaho. ^{[1] [2] [3]}

He married Eileen Duffy on 14 September 1939. ^[1] They had two children:

James served as a Mailman Second-class Petty Officer in the United States Navy. ^[4]
