Geoffrey was born in 1885. He was the son of Charles Arbuthnot and Emily Caroline Schomberg.[1]

He married Jessie Marguerite Henderson (daughter of William Henderson) on 22 October 1913 at Frome, Somerset, England.[2]
They had three children.
Geoffrey fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in despatches. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1919.
He held the office of Aide-de-Camp to HM King George VI in 1936; he was Chief of the Supplies and Transport in 1937; he held the office of Fourth Sea Lord of the Admiralty in 1937.
He was Commander-in-Chief of the East India Station in 1941 and he was Commander-in-Chief of the East Indies Station in 1941.
Geoffrey was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.) in 1942.
His wife died in 1947.
He died in 1957 at the age of 72.[3]
