Biography

James was born in 1855. He was the son of George Arbuthnot and Caroline Hay. [1]

Scotland Census Event Date 1861: Living with his family in Lasswade, Midlothian, Scotland. Aged 5 and a scholar.

He was educated at Glenalmond College, Perthshire, Scotland.

At the age of 23 he married 19 year old Mary Steward Taylor (daughter of Captain Ralph Neufville Taylor and Frances Anne Buckle) on 22 April 1879 at Kensington, Middlesex, England.[2]

They had three children.

He and Mary were divorced in 1896.

James married, secondly, Mary Margaret Mann (daughter of Lowry Mann) on 22 October 1897 at Bombay, India.[3]

He died in 1913 at the age of 37.

Saint John Episcopal Graveyard, Edinburgh, City of Edinburgh, Scotland[4]
