Private Richard Arbuthnott Died in Military Service during World War II.

Richard was born in 1911. He was the only son of Richard Alexander Arbuthnott and Mary Mackie.

When he was only a year old he emigrated from Scotland to New Zealand with his parents and sister Christina. He is listed as a passenger on the Tainui which arrived in Wellington from its last port Sydney on 24 January 1912. They were bound for Lyttelton in Canterbury.[1]

He enlisted in the 2nd World War:

Private ARBUTHNOTT, Richard Alexander - Service No: 68904 served in the 29th Infantry Battalion
Occupation: Farrier
Son of Richard and Mary Arbuthnott, Balclutha

Richard died in New Zealand on the 30th October 1942 aged 31 and was buried in the Balclutha Cemetery - Grave a412.[2]
