Ralph was born in May 1841 at Chirton, Northshields, Northumberland, England

Arrived Melbourne on board "Canaan" February 1855 with his father. Mother and siblings followed in 1857 (name was spelt Archibald on passenger list) Fiche ref B 088 page1 - (source Kevin Tait) Marriage Notes for Ralph Archbold and Emma Palling: Extracts from a letter from Harold Harding to Eileen Lambert 6th May, 1988 "After their marriage the Archbold's (Ralph and Emma) selected a farm near Canary Island on the Loddon river but didn't stay long, I understand. I think they then moved over Shepparton way. One of their son's told me that they carted all the bricks for the Shepparton Post Office which has now been replaced." "I can remember meeting Mrs. Ralph Archbold (nee Emma Palling) back about the mid 1920's. She was then staying with her daughter Emma (Mrs. Len Gray) at 22 Flinders Street, Thornbury."
