Martha Field Archer, daughter of Field and Elizabeth (Royall) Archer, married William Walthall.[1]
William was born 7 March 1740 in Henrico County.[2] Their daughter Martha Field Walthall was named in her grandmother's 1785 will; their daughter Mary, who married Benjamin Osborne,[3] was not.
William died before 20 March 1782 in Chesterfield County, Virginia.[2] Martha was living 3 July 1785, the date of her mother's will.[4]
Research Notes
Estimated Birth: Martha was born "about 1745", based on her husband's birth in 1740.[3]
Estimated Death: William's death date in his main DAR record is given as before 20 March 1782.[2] In a DAR descendant record for Martha, it is given as after 15 December 1780.[1] These dates are problem when his will was proved and when it was written, respectively. The descendant record has Martha's death as after 3 July 1785 (the date of her mother's will).[1] Her mother's profile lists Martha Field (Archer) Walthall's death as "November 06, 1798 in Chesterfield County", but no source is cited for it.
Osbornes: One abstract of Elizabeth (Royall) Archer's 1785 will named a "granddaughter Elizabeth Osborn" in error.[5] A full transcription of the will included the following:
granddaughter, Elizabeth Osborne Moseley ("...if [she] should die under age or unmarried" - indicates that she was under age and unmarried as of 3 July 1785)
Benjamin Osborne, one of four witnesses; the others, her son and sons-in-law Robertson and Dowman, were the will's executors.
There is no Osborn/e mentioned in Field Archer's 1784 will.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Martha by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Martha:
Archer-4812 and Archer-4455 appear to represent the same person because: looks like a bunch of duplicate profiles for this family - this pair is intended to represent the same person, even though death dates differ by a decade
