Between 1920 and 1930, Ada and Berry Pridgen moved to Coffee County, Alabama and Berry went to work at the cotton mill. The reason they moved from their farm in Dale County is unknown to this writer but perhaps Berry, like so many other farmers during the Great Depression which began in 1929, found that he could no longer make a living by farming and sought labor in the city. In 1930 they were renting a residence on South Carmichael Street in Enterprise for which they paid four dollars a month.
