Biography

1776 Project
John Archibald performed Patriotic Service in North Carolina in the American Revolution.

John Peter (uncertain) Archibald was born in about 1726 in New Hannover Precinct (which became, Bladen County, then Anson, then Rowan, and Iredell County in 1788), North Carolina. He was the son of William Archibald and Elizabeth (Unknown) Archibald. He died in 1789.[1]

Parents: William Archibald (1700 - 1764) and Elizabeth Archibald (1700 - 1778)

Spouse: Mary (Hall) Archibald (1738 - 1776)[2]

Children:

  1. Samuel Archibald (1770-1823)[3]
  2. James Archibald (1772 - 1822)[4]
  3. Prudence (Archibald) Gracey (1776 - 1846), married Robert Gracey[5]

Military Service

He was a Revolutionary War Patriot. Service Description: Member of the Rowan County Committee of Safety in 1775.[6]

Research Notes

Both John and Mary Archibald had died before the 1790 Census. However, both of there tombstones survive to this day in the Old Fourth Creek Cemetery in Statesville, North Carolina. The 1790 Census lists a Thomas Archibald (John's brother) and Matthew Archibald.
