Biography

Reuben was born in 1769. Reuben Ard ... He passed away in 1845. [1]

2. Buried with his wife on the farm of their son-in-law and daughter, Jacob and Tabitha Cline in Morgan County MO. I've been told this part of the farm has been converted to a cemetery.

2. Lived for a while in Pulaksi and Wayne Counties in Kentucky. (Note: Wayne County was formed by a split of Pulaski County.)

This Reuben Ard, same birth and death dates/locations shows up all over the internet with many varied versions of his parentage. One school of thought shows that his father or grandfather may have come through Barbados, as a James Ard shows up on the 1638 census in the 'Towne of St. Michaels'. Another says that he is descended from James 'Smokey' Ard who came directly to North Carolina from Scotland. Yet a third states that Reuben's parents came from Scotland on the ship 'Nancy'.

We know that Reuben was the third oldest of four brothers and the oldest was actually a half-brother, James McHenry. Proof of this is included in the PDF document in this profile wherein Reuben gives an afadavit stating James is his half brother. Additionally, Reuben named one of his sons James McHenry, in honor of his half brother.

Given the above, it stands to reason that Reuben's mother was already here, and was a McHenry before she was an Ard.

I believe that the parents listed in this profile are correct.
