Ross Ardern was born in the 1950s. He is the son of Harry Ardern and Gwladys McVicar of Te Aroha.
Ross is a New Zealand diplomat and former police officer.
Since 2014 (to current - 2017) he has been the High Commissioner of New Zealand to Niue, and served as Niue's police commissioner from 2005 to 2009. He was also Niue's director of prisons and director of immigration.
Educated at Church College, a private secondary school in Hamilton, Ross Ardern then attended Police College.
He received a Commissioner's Commendation in 2002 for his peaceful negotiation in an incident with a man armed with a machete.
In 2009 Ross was appointed New Zealand Police liaison officer to the Pacific and South West Pacific. Ross was instrumental in providing support and advice in the response and aftermath of the devastating tsunami in 2008.
He became Superintendant of Police, and when he was selected as the next High Commissioner in 2013 this was the first time a serving policeman had been appointed to a diplomatic post.
Ross is married to Laurell Bottomley and father of Jacinda Ardern and one other daughter.
