Biography
Maria del Refugio was born ca 1805 in Nieves, Zacatecas [1], where she married Juan Jose Batis around 1822 and had their first three children. Then they moved to San Miguel del Mezquital (now, Miguel Auza) Zacatecas, where they had four more children. Maria del Refugio passed away after 1865 [2].

- ↑ I have looked for Maria del Refugio in the parish records of Nieves, but the books from 1873 to 1808 are lost.
- ↑ In the travel diary that Manuel Sáenz de Ortega wrote, he mentions that during the first day of his trip, December 26, 1864, "he spent the night at the Mrs. Refugio Arellano de Batis's house, in the town of Nieves, Zacatecas
