Biography

Obituary, comfortably at home in Waterloo - just three days shy of her 90th birthday. She was born June 1, 1928, in New Orleans, Louisiana, the youngest of five children to Louis and Josephine (Sunseri) Arena. She married Warren Eugene Ledtje Sr. on July 27, 1949 in Waterloo and they later divorced in 1988. Josephine was employed as a nurse's aide at several medical facilities in the area throughout her lifetime and spent many years living in Muscatine, Iowa. She enjoyed being part of a bowling league, crocheting beautiful afghans, completing a record-breaking amount of puzzles, and she maintained faithful attendance at church. Survivors include: Four sons, Anthony (Connie Cooling) of Muscatine, Joseph (Patti Lee) of Cedar Falls, Warren Jr. (Vicki Clabby), and Karl, both of Waterloo; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by: a daughter, Esther Turner of Waterloo, Iowa; two brothers, Louis Arena and Phillip Arena Sr, both of New Orleans, Louisiana; a half-brother, Sam Arena of Portland, Oregon; two sisters, Mary Ann Norman of Toledo, Ohio, and Phyllis Arena of New Orleans, Louisana; two infant grandchildren. Public visitation will begin at 10am Friday, June 1, at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, services to follow at 11am. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
