Biography

Van (Buren) was born on May 3, 1855 in Pennsylvania to David Findley Arendt and Alice Elizabeth Weikert. About 1907, he married Clara S Thomas and they moved West to start a family. In 1910, Van, Clara and three young children were living in Ellisville, SD where they had a farm. By 1915, Clara was not listed as living with the family. Van registered for the draft in 1918 in Harrisburg, PA. He was listed as of medium height and build, with brown eyes and red hair. He was working for a pipe company at the time. In 1923, Van married Louisa Parrott in Flint, MI. He listed his parents as David (sic) Finley Arendt and Alice Weikert (probably Weigert). By 1940, he was listed as a core maker at an auto factory. Van is buried in Lebanon Cemetery in Lebanon, SD with his first wife, Clara. He died on June 27, 1954.
