Biography

Elizabeth was baptised on 6 October 1745, in Perranzabuloe, the daughter of Martyn Argall of Colan, no mother's name given.^[1]

Elizabeth married Richard Jacka on 3 October 1771 after banns were read on on September 15, 22 and 29, in Cubert, Cornwall, England.^[2]

Elizabeth, aged 81 from the parish of St Columb Major, was buried on 20 February 1827 in Colan, Cornwall, England.^[3]

Research Notes

Marriage Notes & Observations^[2]

• Elizabeth's maiden name was spelt as Orgall in the marriage records.
• On the marriage, both were described as of this parish and made their marks. Witnesses ? Alloyn, John Mitchell. (A John Michell married a Mary Orgal at Perranzabuloe in 1770, so this could be a brother-in-law, but no christening record found for this Mary).

Establishing links and Connections

• Richard was baptised at Cubert, Elizabeth and Anne at Crantock, and Philip James and Jane at Colan. There is also a possible earlier Jane at Cubert in 1772.
• Richard and Anne married Ulelia and Richard, the siblings of Jane's husband James Tinney, and Elizabeth married William Williams. Richard was a witness at Elizabeth's marriage, Elizabeth at each of the other three, and Philip James at Jane's. A James Jacka of Colan - probably Philip James - married widow Mary Gilbert the year before Jane's marriage, and she and her husband-to-be James Tinney were witnesses.

No memorial inscription record found in Cornwall FHS database Jan 2010.

• ABT 1810 Melionek, Little Colan, the Cornwall Records Office has a lease dated 20.2.1816 of Melionek alias Up-on-the-Hill, in Little Colan, "late in occupation of Richard Jacka".
• They also have a copy letter of 1790 to Richard Jacka of Little Colan concerning the parish rate of Newlyn East.
